How To Make It Snow With
Photoshop Elements

You can make it snow in your photos with Photoshop Elements. Simple step-by-step tutorial give very realistic results.

Watch the video below as I go through each step and explain exactly how to do it.

Then use the steps below the video to guide you as you use Photoshop Elements to apply this effect to your own photos.

  1. Add a new Layer and fill it with black.
  2. Go up to the Filter Menu and choose Noise>Add Noise... In the Dialog Box set the Amount field to 200% and make sure that Gaussian and Monochromatic are selected.
  3. Go up to the Filter Menu and choose Blur>Gaussian Blur... In the Dialog Box set the Radius field to 2.0 pixels.
  4. Go up to the Enhance Menu and choose Adjust Lighting>Levels... In the Dialog Box set the left Amount to 125, the center Amount to .75, and the right Amount to 170.
  5. Go up to the Filter Menu and choose Blur>Motion Blur... Set the Angle to -55° and the Distance to 10 pixels.
  6. In the Layers Panel change the Blend Mode from Normal to Screen.
  7. Duplicate the Layer.
  8. Go up to the Image Menu and choose Rotate>Rotate Layer 180°.
  9. Go up to the Layer Menu and choose Merge Down.
  10. Duplicate the Layer.
  11. Go up to the Image Menu and choose Transform>Free Transform. In the Tool Options or Options Bar make sure Constrain Proportions is checked and set the Width to 175%. Click the Green Check Mark to accept.
  12. Rename the Layers "Large Flakes" and "Small Flakes".
  13. Duplicate the Small Flakes Layer to intensify the Snow effect.
