Transparent Backgrounds in Photoshop Elements

by Anonymous

Q: How can I keep backgrounds transparent for importing?

A: That's a good question although it's a bit vague. Without knowing the specifics such as what your importing into and whether or not you already have a transparent background it's hard to answer.

I will give the generic answer which is to save your file in the PNG format. To do that go up to the File menu in Photoshop Elements and choose Save As…. In the Dialog box that appears select PNG from the Format drop-down field. If it's for the Web choose Save for Web…. Then select PNG-24 from the Preset drop-down field.

PNG supports transparency so if for instance you want to use the image on the web, the background of the image will maintain its transparency. If on the other hand you saved it as a JPEG all the transparent pixels would show as white after you import it onto the web.

I hope this answer helps. You can always leave a comment to this post if you need more clarification for your specific situation.

Good luck!
Rick
