How do I make eyes pop?

Q: I have worked on making eyes in portraits really pop. I can't figure it out. I know the look I am going for but I can't seem to accomplish it. Can you help with this? I have Photoshop Elements 7.


A: I'm not sure of the look you're going for, but I do have a couple of Photoshop Elements tutorials that really brighten up the eyes.

First you can whiten the whites of the eye to open them up. Check out this tutorial for how to do that: whiten eyes.

Next do a strong dose of sharpening on just the eyes and they will really sparkle. See how to do that here: sharpen eyes.
