Elements 7 Locks Up My Computer

by Gil
(Simsbury, CT 06070)

Q: What can I do. I have removed the software and reinstalled Elements 7 and everything works except when go Elements software I click on EDIT, the screen goes blank and nothing happens. I click again and the computer is dead. Need to pull the plug. When the computer reboots everything is normal except when I got to elements and clicks on EDIT. then nothing.
I am using XP operating system and have been using elements 2 and now 7 for over a year with no problems. Thank you for any help.

A: Hi Gil,
Normally I would recommend rebuilding your Preference file. But since your reinstalling the program it's unlikely that that is your problem. But if you want to try it anyway here is the process:

  1. Press the Shift, Control, and Alt key as you launch the Editor.
  2. Eventually a dialog box will pop up asking if you want to delete the settings. Click Yes.

That will rebuild your Preference file.

The only other suggestion I can give you is to increase the amount of RAM you have allocated to Elements. To do that go up to the Edit menu and choose Preferences and go to Performance.

The default is 69% but you can use the slider to increase it. Try 75 to 80%

If none of that fixes your problem I recommend contacting Adobe support.

Good Luck,
Rick
