Adding Music To Slide Shows

by Ken
(Hamilton UK)

Q : When I try to add music to my slide shows, a message appears saying I am using the wrong file type.
It mentions something about compression or decompression.
I am using Elements 6 and Vista Home premium.
What is a fellow to do? Help!

A : Hi Ken,

It sounds like you need to find the right codec for your audio file.

A codec is a utility that is used by your media player. It compresses your files so they are small enough to download and play on your computer.

The problem is that there are many different codecs and you need to find the right one to play your file.

Here's what you can try. When you got your error message it should have included a 4-letter code. Write down that code and then go to this site: http://www.fourcc.org/codecs.php

See if you can find your code listed in the left hand column under "FOURCC". Then click on the link in one of the next two columns to go to the site where you can download your codec.

If you didn't get a 4-letter code with your error message try finding the codec you need here: http://www.free-codecs.com/

Good luck! Make a comment to this post to let us know how it turns out and if you need further help.
