How To Add A Drop Shadow
To Your Photos

You can add a Drop Shadow to your photos with Photoshop Elements to give them an almost 3-D effect like the photo below.

Watch the Video Tutorial under the photo to see exactly how I used Elements to add a Drop Shadow to the photograph.

Use The Checklist Below Of Important Things To Remember From The Video

You cannot add a Drop Shadow to the Background Layer

Duplicate the Background Layer and add the Drop Shadow to the Duplicate Layer

You must expand the Canvas size to allow for the Drop Shadow

Use the Crop Tool Trick to quickly enlarge the Canvas
1. Click-and-drag diagonally over the entire photo.
2. Pull out corner handles and click green check mark. - NOTE: Someone left a comment on my YouTube Channel explaining if you hold the Alt Key on a PC or the Option Key on a Mac as you pull out the handles it adds equal Canvas space on all four sides.

You can choose a Drop Shadow from the Effects Panel or…

Go up to the Layer Menu and choose Layer Styles>Style Settings

After you add a Drop Shadow you can quickly adjust it by double-clicking on "FX" in the Layers Panel

Hi Rick. Just wanted to say a big thank you for all of the great information contained in your tutorials. I've stumbled around PS9 for quite a few weeks now and can't believe quite how easily you explain the different aspects. It's way, way more powerful than I imagined and now, for me, usable too. A big, big thank you from the UK. - Guy
